Ancient Madras Cycle Trail Launched

Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) on Sunday Ancient Madras Trail For cycling enthusiasts. It is 40 kms. The trail covers the Vadivudiyaman Temple at Tiruvottiyur, the Sri Parthasarathy Perumal Temple and Kapaleeswarar Temple in Triplicane, and the Valluvar Temple at Mylapore. Around 40 people took part in the cycling tour that started and ended at TTDC’s Island Grounds restaurant.

Ramanujar Moulana, Founder, Cycling Yogi, who curated Marks for TTDCSaid that these places had sufficient evidence to show that they predate the British Madras. He said that there are a lot of inscriptions and literature to show his age including Pasuram of Alvar and Thirumurai of Appar.

“We explained a little bit about each of these temples and places because we didn’t have much time. The idea was to introduce these places,” he said. The Cycling Yogis are a group of heritage enthusiasts who love cycling and going on curated trails for the past 12 years.

TTDC Managing Director Sandeep Nanduri, who launched the trail and took part in cycling, said that the tourism corporation is looking at starting more such cycle trails in other cities like Madurai and Coimbatore. “We are currently looking for good partners to operate such trails,” he said. TTDC launched cycle trails in the city of Chennai a few months back.
