Apple Watch bands may soon be able to change color: Here’s how

Apple Watch has reportedly received a patent for a color-changing watch band. The report states that the color of the watch band can be adjusted through an app. Apple is said to be working on automatically changing the color of the watch band depending on what the wearer is wearing. The color changing feature can also be used to send notifications to the users. The patent suggests that the company will use electrochromic elements on the watch band, which are capable of changing color and opacity.

The patent states that the band will have electrochromic elements, which can adjust the color and opacity of the band when a small electric current is supplied.

According to the report, the watch band will get a three-stripe design and it is being said that the color of each stripe can be adjusted independently. It is reported to display both solid as well as striped patterns. The patent also states that the watch bands will provide adjustable color controls and display multiple colors and color combinations without having to remove or replace the watch band.

Users will be able to control, select and/or adjust one or more colors of the watch band through the control system. The report adds that the color selection can be tweaked and adjusted through the Apple Watch app.

Additionally, the patent also notes that the band will also be able to display “icons, shapes and text” and change color to let users know about notifications. Notably, users can already change the color of their Watch bands by physically replacing the bands, but the new capability will eliminate the need to buy multiple bands.
