Apple announced that App Store prices would increase in several countries, including the UK, on 13 February due to changes in taxes and foreign exchange rates in order to maintain the same price across all storefronts.

Apple has revealed in a developer post that starting February 13, the prices of apps on the App Store will increase in several countries, including the United Kingdom. These price adjustments are the result of fluctuating taxes and exchange rates, and “to ensure prices for apps and in-app purchases remain the same across all storefronts.”

Apple has said that the prices of apps and in-app purchases on the App Store will increase in several countries, including Colombia, Egypt, Hungary, Nigeria, Norway, South Africa and the United Kingdom. However, the reduction in the value added tax rate from 15% to 12% will cause prices to drop in Uzbekistan.

Prices will remain unchanged in Ireland, Luxembourg, Singapore and Zimbabwe, but the change in VAT will also result in a small change in income for these countries. Ireland will see VAT rate reduction from 9% to 0% on electronic newspapers and magazines, Luxembourg will see VAT rate reduction from 17% to 16%, Zimbabwe will see VAT rate reduction from 14.5% to 15% Singapore will see an increase in the Goods and Services Tax rate from 7% to 8%.

Additionally, by the end of January, income will also increase for local developers selling in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand and Cambodia. And, in December last year, so did Apple Announced plans to give developers 700 more pricing options for apps on the App Store, ranging in price from 29 cents to $10,000—effective this spring.
