Wayanad (Kerala):

Police on Tuesday arrested 16 people, including one convicted of political murder, in connection with the seizure of banned drugs from a resort in Kerala’s Wayanad district.

Busting a rave party, police late on Monday night detained notorious criminal Kirmani Manoj, a convict in the 2012 CPI-M rebel leader TP Chandrasekaran murder case, and 15 others.

He told that Manoj had joined the party while on parole.

He said that on a tip-off, the police seized several narcotics, including MDMA, during raids at the resort of Padinjarethara village, also known as ecstasy.

He has been charged under sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Police suspect that most of those arrested have criminal backgrounds.

He told that the rave party was organized by a gangster named Kambalakad Mohsin as a celebration of his marriage anniversary.

Meanwhile, Vatkara MLA KK Rema alleged that Chandrasekaran’s killers were getting patronage from the ruling CPI(M) in the state.

Reacting to Manoj’s arrest, Chandrasekaran’s widow Rema said she was not surprised as it was a known fact that Chandrasekaran’s murder convict was living under the tutelage of the CPI(M).

“They have been on parole for the last two years since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic”, she told reporters.

Criticizing the government, he alleged that the state police’s intelligence wing failed to track the activities of convicts like Manoj, who is on parole.

Rema is the leader of the RMP founded by former CPI(M) leader Chandrasekaran a decade ago.

Chandrasekaran was allegedly murdered by CPI(M) workers on 4 May 2012.
