Assam government to shut down 34 schools due to poor results – details here

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Assam has decided to shut down 34 government schools after no student passed this year’s High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 exams. Of these, seven schools are from Karbi Anglong district, 5-5 from Jorhat and Cachar, 2-2 from Dhubri, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Nagaon and 1-1 from Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Hailakandi, West Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Darang and Dibrugarh districts. ,

According to the Assam Secondary Education Department, more than 500 students from these schools appeared for the HSLC exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) this year, but none of them qualified the exam.

Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that it is pointless to spend taxpayers’ money on these schools with zero success rate. Minister Pegu also said that there are many other schools in the state where the enrollment of students is very less.

“If there are no students, how will the school run, some schools have only 2-3 students. The primary duty of the schools is to provide education. If the result of the school in the HSLC examination is zero, then it is better not to have such a school. The government cannot spend taxpayers’ money for zero result,” Dr Runoj Pegu said.

The state education minister also said that these schools will be merged or merged with neighboring schools. “And for this merger process, some schools will be closed. We will try to take the new school forward as new. It is a continuous process, there are around 2000-2500 such proposals in the state and we are looking into it. And we are trying our best to keep these schools,” said the Assam Education Minister.

According to the state education department, recently the department has received proposals and data from more than 290 government schools in the state where the enrollment of students is very low and the results are also not satisfactory.
