People of Delhi can catch a glimpse of replicas of 21 monuments including the Taj Mahal, Victoria Memorial Hall and Mysore Palace at Bharat Darshan Park in Punjabi Bagh, to be inaugurated by Union Home. Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.

Initiated by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the project was constructed over an area of 8.5 acres over a period of 22 months using 350 metric tonnes of waste material – old automobile parts, iron rods and electric poles . A senior SDMC official said the sanctioned cost for the project was ₹14 crore, with the estimated expenditure close to ₹10 crore.

“The opening of this park also brings a good source of revenue for the SDMC. For adults, tickets cost ₹100 during daytime hours and ₹150 in the evening, while tickets for children under 12 years old cost ₹50 and ₹75. The park will be closed on Monday.”

Earlier, the civic body had started a similar project named ‘Waste to Wonder Park’ at Sarai Kale Khan.

more on the way

Apart from the cost, the senior official said that 17 more replicas of Indian monuments would be added in the second phase of the project. He said the replicas would be of monuments that are lesser known. Responding to the notion of provision of walking track, children’s play area and other public facilities in the park, the senior official said that these provisions will be part of the second phase of the project.

SDMC Mayor Mukesh Suryan, however, said that facilities including walking track and children’s play area are ready and there is no provision of food and water in the park at present.

series of delays

While the construction of Bharat Darshan Park began in 2020, its completion was delayed due to delays due to the pandemic.

The 21 replicas include Qutub Minar, Char Minar, Konark Temple, Nalanda Stupa, Meenakshi Temple, Sanchi Stupa and Gol Gumbaz.

Earlier, a dispute broke out with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee over the installation of a replica of the Golden Temple, as it was against the beliefs of Sikhism. A senior SDMC official confirmed that there was no replica of the Golden Temple among the 21 replicas present in the park. A senior SDMC official said that the Bharat Darshan Park will be open for public from December 26.
