Happy Birthday Rohit Roy: Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy, brothers with an age difference of only four years, have long been household names in the country. Perhaps, Ronit—who is the elder brother—has enjoyed a much more successful career than Rohit, be it in television shows or films. Ronit’s breakthrough character was Rishabh Bajaj in Ekta Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2001), while Rohit rose to fame after a brief period of struggle with the hit show Swabhimaan.

Both the siblings have fought the tide of Bollywood together. Although it took some time for Ronit to gain a foothold in the tinsel-town initially, Rohit’s early success in the hit show Swabhimaan made him overconfident. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rohit admitted that his portrayal of a noble lawyer in Swabhimaan made him a household name and that overconfidence went to his head. He claimed that instead of honing and improving his craft, he became too confident about his acting.

Today on Rohit Roy’s birthday, here are some instances where the Roy brothers shared screen space together:

  1. Kaabil (2017)
The brothers shared screen space together in Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kaabil (2017), where they also played siblings. Rohit played the role of the spoiled younger brother of Ronit’s highly corrupt local councillor. Incidentally, Rohit had initially refused the role when Sanjay Gupta first approached him. He had previously claimed it was “very negative”. It is important to note that Rohit had never played a negative hero before and was not sure if the audience would accept him in such a role.
  2. Government (2005-06)
The brothers had previously shared screen space in a television show called Sarkar. It was a political family drama that aired on Zee TV from 2005–2006 and is one of two projects on which the siblings collaborated.

In an interview, Rohit had earlier recalled how “he had immense success in the first 10 years, but then came a dull phase after entering films.” She also admitted that her relationship with elder brother Ronit is not very friendly or “where you slap each other’s backs”. While the siblings are close, Rohit respects his brother and gives him a lot of respect.
