Biryani with Mango Dal: PM Modi ate Telangana cuisine in Hyderabad

India is a country of diversity and so is its food. Every region of the country has a wide array of unique cuisines to offer. And we love to explore it all. The same seems to be the case for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On his recent visit to Hyderabad, Prime Minister Modi indulged in some regional delicacies. He was accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah and several other political leaders in the two-day BJP National Executive meeting (held in Hyderabad). As per a PTI report, “Though the delegates attending the meeting have been enjoying five-star hospitality for the past two days, the Telangana BJP opted to introduce them to special Telangana food items, BJP sources said.”

Reportedly, home chef G Yadamma from Karimnagar district of Telangana was given the charge of preparing home-style full-course regional menus for the leaders. Yadamma led a six-member team that prepared 50 different dishes to treat Prime Minister Modi and others. According to a BJP press release, “Apart from the items served for lunch, even snacks, sweets and sweets were prepared in Telangana style.”

Let’s take a look at the main course served to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders. Meals included:

  • Aloo Kurma (Potato gravy)
  • Bagara Brinjal (Spiced Brinjal)
  • Ivy Gourd-Coconut Fry
  • Bhindi – cashew nuts and peanuts fry
  • Ridge Gourd Fry Meal Maker with Flakes
  • Fenugreek- Moong Dal Fry

  • Pulihora
  • Mint Rice
  • white rice
  • curd rice
  • Gongura Pickle
  • Cucumber Chutney
  • tomato sauce
  • Lauki chutney.

Similarly, the snacks include ‘Garelu’ made from Moong Dal, Sakinalu, Makka Gudaloo and Sarva Pindi, various chutneys prepared with tomatoes, peanuts, coconut and chillies, the PTI report further stated.
