Under the programme, Delhi government school teachers will interact with inmates to understand their educational background and skill needs and accordingly new programs will be designed for them.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday said that the Delhi government will provide skill training and educational support to the inmates of Tihar Jail to help them better engage with the society after the completion of their jail term. To facilitate the programme, teachers of Delhi government schools will study the education background and potential skills of the prisoners. Sisodia held a meeting with Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel, Secretary education Senior officials of the education department, including Ashok Kumar, and teachers working with prison inmates will discuss the details of the project on Thursday.

“Our government believes that right education is the only way to instill the right mindset among people and help them lead a better and meaningful life. There are around 20,000 prisoners in Tihar Jail,” said Sisodia. Under this, our teachers will talk to the prisoners to understand their educational background and skill requirements and accordingly new programs will be designed for them.” He added, “Further, the study will also help the government to understand the gaps in the education system, Due to which crimes are still happening in the society,” he said.

Sisodia, who is also the education minister of Delhi, directed the teachers to interact with the prisoners very diligently and sensitively. He said that the teachers should ensure that they are able to understand the unique skills of the prisoners during the interaction and highlight their areas of interest to work on in future. The Delhi government already runs an education program in Tihar Jail and additional campuses in Rohini and Mandoli, where government teachers have been appointed by the Directorate of Education and are taking weekly classes. Now these teachers will cooperate with the government in this study.”
