Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 said that the government has ensured that no one goes hungry during the pandemic by providing free food grains to 80 crore poor people.

Under this, the government is implementing a scheme to provide free food grains to the poor. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) with an outlay of ₹2 lakh crore from January 1, the Finance Minister said.

The growth of agriculture and allied sector has been rapid over the years due to measures adopted by the government to increase crop and livestock productivity, returns to farmers through price support and promotion of crop diversification. Private investment in agriculture increased by 9.3% in FY21 (7% in FY20).
