Bundesliga: Sadio Mane nets brace as free-scoring Bayern Munich rout Bochum 7-0

Sadio Mane scored two goals, including one from the penalty spot, as Bayern Munich beat Bochum 7-0 on Sunday to extend their perfect start to the Bundesliga season.

Despite never scoring a penalty during his time in the Premier League, Mane converted from the spot in the 60th minute and appears to have replaced the late Robert Lewandowski as the Bavarian’s designated penalty taker.

Bayern have scored 19 goals in four competitive games since Pole left for Barcelona in the summer.

Former Man City forward Leroy Sane, making his first start of the season, opened the scoring after four minutes, striking without hesitation from the edge of the penalty area into the top right of the net.

Bayern’s energy and pace continued to trouble Bochum, with Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt celebrating his first goal in the Bayern colors after going into a cross in the 25th minute.

Replays showed the ball was out of De Ligt’s hand, but after a short review of the VAR the target stood.

Kingsley Coman added a third 33 minutes before Mane lay on the opener in the 42nd minute.

Bochum defender Christian Gamboa scored the same goal with 69 minutes to go after Mane made the penalty 5-0, trying to keep the ball off Sane’s feet.

Serge Gnabry scored Bayern’s seventh goal in the 76th minute.

Bayern topped the table after a surprise 4-2 loss last season.

They are the only Bundesliga team to have won all three of their opening matches.
