Vijayendra attacks Siddaramaiah for meeting the seer, sparking controversy

The tussle between the Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah and the BJP office-bearers over the Veerashaiva-Lingayat issue is not taking its name to stop.

By. Lingayat leader and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s son Vijayendra criticized Siddaramaiah for allegedly creating controversy in a meeting with Rambhapuri Math seer Veerasomeswara Shivaacharya Swamy on Sunday.

“Mr. Siddaramaiah paid the price for the anti-people administration and religious politics’ attempt to cover up political failure. No one expects regret from Mr. Siddaramaiah. How right is it to stir up controversy by meeting a religious leader?” Mr Vijayendra tweeted on Sunday.

After a meeting with Mr Siddaramaiah on Saturday, the seer had claimed that the former chief minister had repented of the attempt to divide the Lingayat community when he was the chief minister. However, Mr Siddaramaiah later clarified that he had only told the seer about the turn of events and he did not repent.

Mr. Vijayendra also said that Mr. Siddaramaiah was provoking religious fanatics by repeatedly criticizing freedom fighter VD Savarkar. “People are watching your political moves. A huge abyss awaits you to continue your religious politics despite facing the heat earlier too,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Mr Siddaramaiah’s son and Congress MLA from Varuna Yatindra Siddaramaiah, in a tweet, said: “Savarkar was a fanatic who demanded a Hindu. Nation And there was a belief that Muslims and Christians would not be loyal to the country. He argued that others without equal rights should be subject to Hindus. How can minorities consider a communal person to be a national leader?”
