‘…But We Already Said It All’: G-23 On As Congress Leaders Welcome Prashant Kishor’s Reboot Plan

The much talked-about Congress meetings with political strategist Prashant Kishor went on throughout the week and Congress workers wondered whether he would join the party. Some are overzealous, some are skeptical about his sudden inclination for the Congress, some after the electoral defeat in Goa where the TMC dented the Congress fortunes in the state.

Congress leaders and Kishor held meetings till Friday to discuss the roadmap for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, after which he gave a powerpoint presentation of around 600 slides to senior party leaders, including the party’s chief ministers. The committee constituted by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has also submitted its report and most senior leaders are not deterred from joining the party.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Srinet said: “When a decision is taken it will be informed.”

According to party sources, most Congress leaders agree with the plan proposed by PK, as Kishor is popular, but some are wary, said an IANS report. However, sources told IANS that PK is involved, but whether he will be included in the party or will be confined to an advisory role is yet to be decided by Sonia Gandhi.

Party sources told IANS that PK is no guarantee of success, though his success rate is high. In 2017 he was working for an alliance of Congress and Samajwadi Party but failed miserably. He was in Punjab in 2017 but dropped out before the 2022 elections. However, he has been successful with TMC, TRS, DMK and YSRCP.

Sources in dissident group G-23 told IANS that they are not very impressed as they say the party leadership is ignoring and ignoring the inner talent and trusting someone who is not loyal to the party and is a professional consultant. They say that whatever PK is telling the Congress leadership, it has been raised by the group in its letter to Sonia Gandhi and subsequent meetings.

Kishor has been suggesting making a non-Gandhi party president, the revival of the parliamentary board, ending nepotism and turning the party into an electoral machine – all issues raised by the group and this can happen only if the party A source said that the elections to the House from the grassroots level to the Congress Working Committee level.

Congress leaders may disagree with suggestions that someone outside the Gandhi family lead the party, but sources suggest that Kishor has suggested a massive reform of the party.

The Congress leaders who have been assigned to prepare the report on the presentation have submitted the report to Sonia Gandhi.

Congress leaders have met election strategists several times, who suggested a roadmap for contesting the 2024 elections and six assembly elections.

From last Saturday, Kishor presented a detailed roadmap for the 2024 elections to Sonia Gandhi and top party leaders. Thereafter, Gandhi appointed a small group to look into it and report to him within a week. “Final decision will be taken after that,” said Congress general secretary, Sangathan Venugopal.

According to sources, Kishor had said during the meeting that the Congress should target 370 to 400 seats and work on an alliance wherever the party is weak.

Congress leaders like Digvijay Singh and Ashok Gehlot have no qualms about Kishor working for the party. Gehlot’s saying that he has become a brand is an indication of Congress leaders saying that PK will join the board sooner or later.
