Calcutta High Court judge releases messaging transcripts after being removed from case, Supreme Court stays order

Justice Gangopadhyay passed the said order taking suo motu cognizance, wherein he said that he would wait for the official translation of his interview and affidavit of regulatory authority in his chamber by 12.15 pm. The order states, “For the sake of transparency, I direct the secretaries of the Supreme Court to report before me and the official interview given by the media and the affidavit of the General relative to this Court by 12 midnight tonight.” Present.”

Mamta’s petition was being held on the petition
The Supreme Court was hearing the actions of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and on the petition of labor leader Abhishek Banerjee. Abhishek had challenged the Calcutta High Court order in which Justice Gangopadhyay had on April 13 ordered that central agencies like the ED and the CBI can interrogate Abhishek on needy persons. Hearing the petition of Abhishek Banerjee, a bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice PAC Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala stayed the order.

Till now, the case was being handled by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court, who directed the CBI and ED to question TMC’s national darling Abhishek Banerjee. The Supreme Court passed the order 4 days after Justice Gangopadhyay took exception to an interview given to a news channel, which allegedly spoke against Banerjee. The court had remarked that “judges cannot negotiate flat cases,” and sought clarification whether the impugned single judge was given or not.
