Car Sales September 2021: MG Motor India registers 28 percent growth in sales

MG Motor sold 3241 units in September 2021.

MG Motor India has registered a YoY (YoY) growth of 28 per cent in sales at 3241 units in September 2021 as compared to both Hector and MG ZS EV. In fact, the company is seeing good traction for mg As an EV, ZS EV registered growth for the third consecutive month with over 600 bookings in September 2021. That said, the month-on-month (MOM) sales declined by 24.88 percent with the company selling 4315 units in August 2021. The drop in sales is mainly attributed to chip shortages leading to supply constraints at the carmaker’s end.

MG ZS EV received over 600 bookings in September.

Rakesh Sidana, Sales Director, MG Motor India said, “Our production has come down by almost a third due to chip shortage. We expect this challenge to continue for the next few months. However, considering the high number of bookings, We are trying our best to address the challenge and reduce the waiting period to three months.”

The semiconductor issue has been a global issue and has affected the auto industry as well as many other industries. Even India’s biggest carmaker – Maruti Suzuki – has announced to cut its production by up to 40 per cent due to chip shortage and the problem is even more worrying for MG as its technical models. MG Motor India is also gearing up to launch the MG Astor compact SUV in India this month and says it should be in a better position in a few months in terms of supply as the semiconductor problem is likely to improve.
