An FIR was lodged by the police here on Friday against a local Congress leader for making derogatory remarks against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, an official said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) said that an FIR was registered against Chandrashekhar Patel, former president of Indore unit of Congress Seva Dal, at Vijay Nagar police station under Indian Penal Code section 294 (using abusive words) and other relevant sections. Sampat Upadhyay.

Patel had allegedly made a controversial statement against Chouhan during a protest organized by the Congress on Friday against the economic policies of the BJP-led central government.

After a video of the statement went viral on social media, BJP workers gathered outside the DCP office on Friday evening to express their anger and raised slogans against the Congress.

Indore BJP chief Gaurav Randive said Patel’s statement showed the “mental bankruptcy” of the Congress and that he had insulted the entire state by using foul language against the chief minister.

Randive said Patel has several criminal cases registered against him over the years and the Congress should immediately expel him.

Meanwhile, a separate FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against Leader of Opposition in the local civic body Chintu Choksey and other Congress leaders, who staged the protest at Sathya Sai Chowk. participated in. said a police officer.
