CBI arrests Jagan Reddy’s uncle in connection with ex-MP’s murder

New Delhi:

The Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested YS Bhaskar Reddy, uncle of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in connection with the murder of former MP Vivekananda Reddy.

Vivekananda Reddy was the brother of late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of the present Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jaganmohan Reddy. He was assassinated on the night of March 15, 2019, a few weeks before the state assembly elections, at his residence in Pulivendula, a constituency now represented by his nephew.

The case was initially investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state Criminal Investigation Department, but was handed over to the CBI in July 2020.

According to the CBI chargesheet, Vivekananda Reddy was allegedly seeking parliamentary election ticket for himself or YS Sharmila (Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister) or YS Vijayamma (Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother) instead of Avinash Reddy from Kadapa Lok Sabha . constituency.
