Sahu, who lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the CBI here on Saturday, had gone to Lahucha near the Master Canteen Square here with Rs 2 lakh in cash, when officials of the central agency caught him red-handed with the bribe money on Sunday. took. Sunday afternoon.
It is to be noted that Yadav, who in January this year had arrested another Bhubaneswar-based journalist Manoj Kumar Seth in a fraud case, had made Sahu a witness in the case. Seth had reportedly died as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathcreated a fake email ID in the name of the Chief Minister and sent fake letters to various PSUs to issue advertisements on Seth’s news portal.
“I was made a witness as I was present at a place in Bhubaneswar from where Seth was arrested. Yadav sent me a notice and asked me to appear before him on February 13 to record my statement. I appeared before him,” said Sahu.
Yadav had named Sahu as a witness in the charge sheet on March 28. Yadav made a WhatsApp call to Sahu on April 19 and tried to extort money from him by threatening to make him an accused in the supplementary chargesheet.
“Yadav and Lahucha pressurized him to arrange Rs 4.5 lakh. Later, the deal was settled for Rs 4 lakh. Though Yadav was supposed to come to Bhubaneswar to collect the bribe, he sent Lahucha to collect the money,” said a CBI official.
While a case has been registered against Yadav, the CBI has not arrested him yet. CBI raided the residences of both the accused in Delhi.
