CBI searches in Delhi, West Bengal in coal theft case

It is alleged that coal was illegally mined and stolen from leasehold areas of ECL

CBI conducts raids in Delhi and West Bengal on Thursday, September 16, 2021 Illegal coal mining and theft case.

Searches were conducted at the Delhi premises of a former director-level officer of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and its general manager in Asansol, West Bengal.

The agency also searched the premises of a Central Industrial Security Force officer at Farakka in West Bengal.

In July, the agency searched the premises of some other ECL officials in West Bengal, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh in connection with the “mastermind” case. Anoop Majhi and others.

It is alleged that coal was illegally mined and stolen from leasehold areas of ECL in Asansol and adjoining private land.

Based on the CBI’s First Information Report, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also investigating under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Earlier, it had also arrested Vikas Mishra, brother of TMC youth wing leader Vinay Mishra; and Inspector Ashok Mishra, former in-charge of Bankura.

ED attached Manjhi’s assets worth Rs 165.86 crore.
