Vishal Bhardwaj to direct spy thriller ‘Khufia’ for Netflix

The film is inspired by true events and is based on Amar Bhushan’s popular detective novel ‘Escape to Nowhere’.

Veteran filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj is teaming up with Netflix for a spy thriller film ‘Khufia’, it was announced on Thursday.

Produced and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the film will also feature his frequent collaborator Tabu as well as actors Ali Fazal, Vamika Gabbi and Ashish Vidyarthi.

Netflix said in a press release, ‘Khufia’ is inspired by true events and is based on Amar Bhushan’s popular detective novel ‘Escape to Nowhere’.

The film tells the story of Krishna Mehra, a RAW operative who is assigned to locate a mole that sells India’s defense secrets. Struggling with the dual identities of a detective and a lover.

Bhardwaj, who co-wrote the film with Rohan Narula, said, “With ‘Khufia’, my endeavor is to make an edgy spy film that separates the slow-moving intelligence and surveillance work from the deep emotional conflicts.”

This marks Tabu’s second project with streamer Netflix after “A Suitable Boy” in the 2020 series directed by Mira Nair.

With Bharadwaj, the actor has worked in the critically acclaimed feature films “Maqbool” and “Haider”.
