The CBSE has warned schools against starting the academic session before April 1, saying it risks causing anxiety and fatigue among students.

WARNING BY CENTRAL BOARD OF SECONDARY Education (CBSE) comes after many schools started their academic session, especially for classes 10 and 12.

“It has been observed that some affiliated schools have started their academic session very early in the year. In an official order, CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi said the attempt to cover an entire year’s worth of syllabus in a short time frame poses a risk to students who may get overwhelmed and struggle to keep up with the pace of learning. The board has noted that starting the academic session earlier does not provide enough time to students for extra-curricular activities, such as learning life skills, value education, health and physical education, work education and community service.

All these activities are equally important as academics. Therefore, the principals of schools and heads of institutions affiliated to the board are advised to refrain from starting the academic session before the specified time and strictly follow the academic session from April 1 to March 31,” Tripathi said.

CBSE is currently conducting board exams for class 10 and 12. The exams for both the classes began on February 15 and will end on March 21 for class 10 and April 5 for class 12.
