Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said on July 22 that central banks are tightening monetary policies at a very rapid pace, raising fears of an imminent slowdown. “We are living in turbulent times. The ongoing war and pandemic in Europe has left the global macro-economic outlook uncertain. Countries are facing unexpectedly high inflation including food inflation, supply chain disruption and demand-supply imbalance,” he said. “Central banks are tightening monetary policies at a very rapid pace, raising fears of an imminent recession. There was some moderation in commodity prices in June, but they remain elevated,” he said.
