Chief Minister, Yediyurappa had breakfast at Dalits’ house just before voting, ‘photo-op’: Congress

The Congress on Wednesday dubbed Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and state BJP strongman BS Yediyurappa breakfast at a Dalit’s home as a “photo-op” for votes ahead of next year’s assembly elections in the state.

While Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah hit out at the ruling BJP for not doing enough for Dalits and other backward communities so far, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala took a dig at the Bommai government by highlighting an incident. A dozen Dalit activists were allegedly assaulted and held captive at an estate in Chikkamagaluru.

“As elections are approaching, they are remembering Dalits, backward classes, SC-STs, till now nothing has been done by this government for their welfare. Now for elections and votes, they are visiting the areas where Dalit and backward communities live. Bommai, Yediyurappa and other BJP leaders had breakfast at the house of a Dalit in Ambedkar Nagar in Kamalapura village of Vijayanagar district on Wednesday as part of the party’s ‘Jan Sankalp Yatra’.

Surjewala said in a tweet, “Karnataka stinks of Dalit atrocities under Bommai government – ​​a 54% increase over last year. As Bommai-BSY (Yeddyurappa) does a photo-op of a Dalit visiting home. Earlier in the day, Bommai had breakfast with BJP strongman BS Yediyurappa at the residence of a Dalit family in a village near Hospet. He visited the village as part of the ruling BJP’s ‘Jan Sankalp Yatra’ that began on Tuesday.

Hirala Kollarappa along with her two daughters, Hulijemma and Renuka, served VVIP Kesari Bhaat, Mandakki Vograne (fried puffed rice with spices), fried chillies and Uppittu (upma). According to government officials, the Chief Minister along with Yeddyurappa, Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol and Tourism Minister Anand Singh visited Ambedkar Nagar in Kamalapura village in the newly formed Vijayanagar district.

Bommai also interacted with the family members.
