Classrooms that look like buses, train coaches: New look of government schools boosts enrollment of students

From selfie points and bottle-shaped water tanks to wall-mounted pictures of books and pencils, the distinctive design of Government Senior Secondary School in Sahodi village of Alwar district attracts students and parents alike. The facelift that the school building has received is also reflected in the student enrollment which has almost doubled in two years, while there has also been a marked improvement in cleanliness, learning environment and discipline.

And it is not limited to just one school. With the contribution of the donors and the help of various organizations other than the state, many government schools in Rajasthan have carved a niche with their unique design, which has created interest among the children and increased the enrollment.

Kiran, Government Senior Secondary School of Sahodi village, said, “When I took over, the school building was not in good condition. The building’s charm is one of the major attractions.” “Therefore, the walls are attractively painted and the water tank is given the shape of a bottle,” she said. The school also has a selfie point. The principal said “It attracts the students and inspires them to soar higher by planting the wings of education.”

40 lakh rupees were spent on the renovation of the school by the Sehgah Foundation and villagers also joined in. “Enrollment has increased significantly. It has almost doubled. The facelift has helped in creating an environment of learning, discipline and cleanliness. He said that on August 5 this year, the school was awarded at the state level in cleanliness.

Several other schools in the district have been renovated, giving them a unique design. “In a school, the classrooms look like a train compartment, with the walls painted blue. Rajesh Lavania, an engineer of the education department posted in Alwar, told PTI that while there has been a significant jump in the enrollment of students and this has affected studies, there has also been a positive change in terms of discipline and cleanliness.

Such creative ideas are being followed not only in Alwar, but also in other districts including Dholpur, Chittorgarh and Pali. In many schools, classrooms are colored like trains, buses and ships. Inspirational quotes and quick learning methods are being used on walls and stairs.
