‘Compensation will be given according to…’: Uttarakhand CM on Joshimath crisis

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday visited the state’s flood-hit Joshimath town and announced interim assistance to the affected people seeking compensation on the lines of Badrinath.

Talking to media persons on reaching Joshimath, Dhami said, ‘We stand with the people of this place. Joshimath, The Prime Minister himself is monitoring the situation. I have their full support. Their (affected people) interests will be taken care of.”

According to news agency PTI, the Chief Minister also said that compensation will be given as per the market rate, which will be decided after taking all the stakeholders into confidence.

interim assistance of He said Rs 1.5 lakh was being given to the affected people and details of relief and rehabilitation were being worked out.

A 19-member committee has also been constituted under the chairmanship of Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana to ensure distribution of package amount and rate of rehabilitation package among the affected families.

“Such an impression should not be created. We are going to have international winter games in Auli in February. Char Dham Yatra will also start in a few months. Such misconception should not be created,” he said. by PTI.

He further said that wherever development work is being done, there should be a “balance between ecology and economy”.

Meanwhile, protests continued in the town and similarly affected families were evacuated, 18 more people were shifted to temporary relief centres. A total of 145 families have been evacuated so far Danger Zone in Joshimathsaid the Disaster Management Authority in Chamoli. More than 700 homes have been declared unsafe.

Two hotels adjacent to each other – the seven-storey Malari Inn and the five-storey Mount View – stand precariously in the subsidence zone, posing a threat to over a dozen homes.

Preparations for mechanical demolition of the structures with the help of Roorkee-based Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), which brought down the two Noida towers, had begun on Tuesday itself, but the exercise was stalled by a dispute between the owners of the two hotels.
