‘Congress has phobia’: Kumaraswamy, RJD hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s ‘bizarre’ remarks on regional parties

The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Monday asked Rahul Gandhi to look at the recent election history of regional parties, which were fighting a formidable battle against the BJP, as the Congress leader lashed out at him for his critical comments calling the claims “bizarre”. was ridiculed. And does not conform to the stand of his own party.

In his address at his party’s “Chintan Shivir” (brainstorming camp) in Udaipur, Gandhi had claimed that regional parties could not fight the BJP and the RSS because they lacked ideology. Congress can fight them, he said

On this, RJD spokesperson Manoj Kumar Jha said that if we look at the figures, Gandhi will amend his statement. “I find it a bit strange and inconsistent,” Jha, a Rajya Sabha MP, told PTI.

Jha said it was the RJD that was on the receiving end of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attack during the elections as it was at the center of the electoral and ideological battle against the BJP. He claimed that hundreds of RJD leaders and workers, from RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav to Tejashwi Yadav, had to bear the brunt of the party’s ideological commitment in the fight against the BJP.

Meanwhile, JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy also took a dig at the old party leader for his critical remarks that the Congress is facing the fear of regional parties.

In a candid sarcastic remark, he asked the former Congress president to elaborate on the ideological commitment to regional parties, while asserting that the national party has no presence in most parts of the country.

Noting that Rahul Gandhi claims that Congress alone has the power to defeat the BJP, Kumaraswamy said he (Rahul) should not forget that his party enjoyed power for 10 years on the strength of regional parties.

“Is it an ideological commitment to join hands for backdoor unethical operation ‘Lotus’, bring an alliance proposal at our (JD-S) doorstep and form a coalition government with us? Is destroying alliance partners politics based on ideology?” He also raised questions on Congress.

As the 2018 elections saw a hung mandate, the Congress and the JD(S), which contested separately, joined hands to form a coalition government in Karnataka under Kumaraswamy’s leadership.

However, the government fell due to discontent within 14 months, and legislators from both parties resigned and joined the BJP. Stating that the Congress is facing the fear of regional parties, Kumaraswamy said, “It has no presence in most of the states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha. Congress is in its last days in Karnataka. It would be better if Rahul Gandhi understands this.
