Surat: Five members of a family died on the spot, while a 22-year-old man miraculously survived when a multi axle truck carrying a container overturned on a car in Navsari district on Monday evening.
The car with CNG cylinder was badly crushed, due to which five died.
The deceased were residents of Samroli and Vankal near Chikhli in Navsari and were returning to their village after shopping in Surat. The family had gone to Surat for wedding shopping and found new clothes in the car. The operation to retrieve the bodies continued for over two hours as the bodies were badly crushed in the car.
The dead were identified as Prafulla Lallu Patel (50), his wife Meenakshi (48), his son Rigvesh alias Shiv Praful Patel (18), Raunak Kanti Patel (22), all residents of Samroli; And Manisha Mukesh Patel (32) of Vankal. Deep Patel (22) narrowly survived the accident and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The accident took place on the Kasbapar-Dhola Pipla road, a road connecting Surat-Navsari state highway with National Highway 48. It is a two lane road.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that the truck driver lost control of the steering and his vehicle veered off the road. The container overturned as soon as it left the road. Both vehicles were off the road.
“One person was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment. Five members of the family died on the spot. A police officer said how exactly the accident happened is yet to be investigated.
