covid-19 | Hospital says Sourav Ganguly is hemodynamically stable

Ganguly, who has been double vaccinated, was taken to Woodlands Hospital as a precautionary measure after his RT-PCR test came back positive.

Former cricket captain and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has tested positive for the COVID-19 infection and has been admitted to a city hospital.

Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata said in a press statement on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 that he received monoclonal antibody cocktail therapy and is currently hemodynamically stable.

Hospital officials said a medical board comprising five senior doctors is keeping a close watch on his health condition. Mr. Ganguly was admitted to the hospital in early January this year and underwent angioplasty after suffering a mild heart attack.

Meanwhile, 400 to 500 new cases of Kovid-19 infection are being registered daily in West Bengal. On January 27, 439 new cases of infection were registered in the state and 10 people died. In the last 24 hours, the maximum number of 204 new infections are being reported in Kolkata.

The state has also reported about six cases of the Omicron variant, which have been described by the World Health Organization as a form of concern.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday urged people not to let their guard down for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Ms Banerjee said restrictions could be reimposed in the state. The state has withdrawn the night curfew on account of Christmas and New Year festivals.

The state government is also preparing for the annual Ganga Sagar pilgrimage to be held at Sagar Island on January 14 every year.
