Covid-19 re-infection in children? Here’s what the expert has to say

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases among children, the health expert said that there is a re-infection of COVID-19 in children.

However, the expert also said that the cases are mild and can be managed at home.

He said that children who were infected with the coronavirus in January or April are getting infected with the virus again, but the cases are mild which can be managed at home.

He further said that children are also getting infected with other seasonal diseases.

Dr Nitin Verma Director Madhukar Rainbow Children’s Hospital said that the children are coming down with COVID-19 infection.

“I have a large number of cases who have got COVID once and they are getting infected with COVID again for the second time. So a child who was infected with COVID in January got infected again in April and Which in April it happened again. Now.”

Dr Verma said, “If it is a different strain there is no protection, so many children are getting COVID for the second time.”

He further added that children are getting other infections as well, “COVID is ongoing and even now I find around four to five kids who are down and have proven cases of COVID in a day. Hand foot and mouth disease is a lot. , especially in young children going to school. There are a lot of viral fevers which are early cases of dengue and recently we have started getting cases of swine flu too.”

Dr Verma said that most of the COVID cases are mild which can be managed at home.

“Fortunately most cases are mild. Severity is only in adults. The advantage in adults is that they have also taken their vaccine. So they have slightly more symptoms but mild to moderate severity in children and all managed at home going,” he said.

Regarding the symptoms being diagnosed in the children, he said, “The children are showing fever, some of them have a sore throat. Some children are having rashes and others have symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.”

On safety measures, Dr Verma said, “Vaccination helps prevent the severity of the disease, and makes sure you don’t land in the hospital or ICU and wear a mask, wash your hands and maintain social distancing.”

In most of the cases, children are getting infected with COVID even from schools, Dr Nitin said, adding that it is important to pay attention to the school environment.

“So obviously, we need to focus on the school environment to make sure that masks are mandatory in schools. You know, when kids are eating, they’re dispersed so they’re a- Don’t be close to others. Then this is the only way we can stop the spread of COVID in schools,” Dr. Verma said.

On the issue of closure of schools to contain the spread of COVID, he said that there is no need for it unless the cases are very high.

“So, if there is a rapid increase in cases or we are seeing an increase in COVID cases with serious illness, yes, it is important to close schools. But even in school, we can take such measures. Like you can have a hybrid model with half the number of people coming so that you can maintain social distancing. But I think given the current situation and the fact that the matters are not very serious, I would recommend closing the schools at the moment. I would not recommend.”
