‘Create more awareness about legal aid services’

Emphasizing on the need to create more awareness among the public about legal aid services, Justice K Murali Shankar, Judge of Madras High Court said that awareness will help people in grievance redressal and also help in more disposal of cases .

Justice Murali Shankar was speaking at the Mega Legal Services Camp organized at Sri Aurobindo Meera School on Saturday. Legal Services Authorities were formed to provide legal aid to the needy people. He said that people should be made aware about legal aid services.

Collector S. Anish Shekhar said that there is less awareness among the common man. People were upset due to lack of information about the remedy. He said that the success of legal aid services lies in creating more awareness among the common man.

There were various schemes and services for the benefit of the people. He said that due care should be taken by the concerned authorities with the petitioners approaching the government departments for grievance redressal.

Commissioner of Police Prem Anand Sinha suggested the use of internet for creating awareness and also for grievance redressal. Chief Judicial Magistrate D. Jayakumari Jamie Ratna said the objective of the event is to help people understand legal aid services.

Superintendent of Police V. Bhaskaran, Corporation Commissioner KP Karthikeyan and C. Chandran of Aurobindo Meera School spoke about the importance of the legal aid camp. Principal District Judge P. Vadamalai welcomed the gathering and V. Deepa, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority proposed vote of thanks.

Over 1,500 petitions received from the public and sent to various government departments for grievance redressal were disposed of. More than 30 stalls were set up at the venue to create awareness among the public. Similar mega legal service camps were organized in the southern districts by the District Legal Services Authorities.
