other than before creed The films now included Tessa Thompson as Creed’s musician love interest, Bianca, Phylicia Rashad as his stepmother, Mary Anne, Wood Harris as the trainer, Little Duke, and Florian Munteanu as the tough boxer, Drago, reprise their roles.

Three years after shedding his gloves, Adonis “Donnie” Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is in a good place, living in a beautiful apartment with Bianca and her precocious daughter, Amara (Mila Davis-Kent). With the support and mentorship of a new generation of boxers, Creed’s life seems set until Damien Anderson’s (Jonathan Majors) past comes knocking.

As boys together in a foster home, the two were close to 15-year-old Donnie (Thaddeus J. Mixon), who idolized 18-year-old Damian (Spence Moore II). Damian was a boxing prodigy ready to shine in the ring until one evening when everything goes terribly wrong and he is sent to prison.

Once he is out of jail, Damian comes to collect what he believes he is owed from Donnie. Jordan, in his feature film directorial debut, has crafted an intricate sports film that, in addition to breathtaking fight scenes (cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau’s frames lend a breathtaking ferocity to Mark R. Missione’s fight choreography), Brothers , is a beautiful meditation on rivalry. The past, the need to forgive yourself, and the importance of letting go.

Walking around as Major Damian, explaining the injury and the fury of having been cheated out of a chance to be a contender, sees himself instead of the pre-convention. Donnie finds another way to resolve issues away from the ring – even as he turns to boxing to settle his differences with Damien.

Boxing usually serves as a roughly drawn metaphor in movies and such is the case creed iii Too. While everyone loves an underdog story, in creed iii, Both men are underdogs. Donnie has retired three years ago and can be soft as a stay-at-home dad. Although Damian never fought or trained professionally, his time in prison taught him how to fight to win. It may not be pretty, but it gets the job done. Cue the adrenaline-fuelled training montage sequences – where’s Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’?

You find yourself rooting for both boxers and whatever the outcome, our joy for the winner will be tempered by sadness for the loser. And that’s what keeps us invested in this stirring tale of brothers turned against each other by hurt and love.

Creed III is currently playing in theaters.
