CUET-UG 2022: A series of glitches started in the first edition of the second biggest entrance exam – Times of India

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI): first edition of Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG, which is the second biggest entrance exam in the country, has seen several glitches, leading to cancellation of the exam and making candidates worried and struggling. Here is a list of what went wrong in the exam with over 14.9 lakh candidates:
Change of exam center: Many candidates missed the exam due to last minute change in the exam center on the first day of the exam on 15th July. Students who appeared in the morning slot at several centers in Delhi reported that they were not allowed entry. NTA It was later announced that the candidates who were informed about the change of center through email and SMS the night before the exam, will not get a chance for the re-examination. In the subsequent stages also candidates have been complaining about the last minute change in the exam centres.
Mass cancellation of exams after reports of “sabotage”: On the first day (August 4) of the second phase, the second shift examination was canceled at all the centres. Exams were canceled at many centers during the entire phase UGC Chairman Stating that the exam has been canceled following reports of sabotage. The second stage candidates will get a chance to re-exam at the end of this month.
Exam postponed to accommodate center choice: The Phase III examination was postponed for over 11,000 candidates as the city of their choice could not be adjusted for the examination centre. They will also appear for the exam on August 30.
Change of exam dates without notice: Many candidates are claiming that their exam dates are being changed without prior notice, due to which they have missed the exam unknowingly. Students are contacting both NTA and UGC seeking clarity on the re-examination.
Admit cards mentioning exam dates already passed: Many CUET-UG candidates have claimed that the exam dates mentioned on their admit card have already passed, whereas the date mentioned to them earlier was different. NTA has appealed to the candidates not to panic and stick to the dates which have been communicated to them and their admit cards will soon reflect the exact dates.
Exam canceled due to technical fault: On August 17, due to a technical snag in the fourth phase of CUET, NTA had to cancel exams at 13 centers affecting over 8,600 candidates. Affected candidates will get a chance to re-exam on 25th August.
Exam canceled due to rain, landslideThe Phase II and III exams were also canceled due to rain and landslides at some centers in Kerala and Itanagar. Only three candidates could reach two examination centers in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and the rest could not reach due to landslides. All affected candidates will get a chance for re-test.
Delayed Program: As per the initial plan, all the phases of CUET-UG were to end on August 20. NTA had later announced that all the phases of the exam would end on August 28. However, now the schedule has been further postponed and the exam is divided into six phases and is scheduled to end on August 30. The delayed schedule of exams has further delayed admission to the university.
National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting the exam, had announced a grievance redressal email for the candidates who are struggling with the issues. According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), each complaint is being evaluated and a call is being taken after verification to see whether the candidate should be allowed to appear for the re-examination. The NTA on Monday had announced a special email for candidates who had complaints of CUET dates clashing with other exams.
UGC chief Jagdish Kumar had told PTI last week that the glitches would not affect the expansion plan for the crucial exam, including a proposal to merge it with JEE and NEET and conduct the exam twice a year.
Kumar had announced in March that undergraduate admissions to all central universities would be conducted through a common entrance test and not on the basis of class 12 marks.
