India’s Para Table Tennis team comprising Bhavna Patel, Sonalben Patel and Raj Aravindan Algar was accorded a warm welcome at the Delhi airport after their successful performance at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The team won two medals – a gold and a bronze.

Speaking to ANI, Bhawna said, “I feel proud because going to the Commonwealth Games and contributing something for the country is an achievement in itself. I thought I should win gold this time.”

She acknowledged the support, effort and contribution of husband, family, parents, coach and dietitian; Dedicating his medal to him.

“I would also like to thank the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) for their support,” she added.

Bhavna Patel won the gold medal by defeating Nigeria’s Efechukwude Kristiana Ikpoyi in the final of Women’s Singles – Class 3-5. She defeated Ikpeoyi in straight sets 12-10, 11-2, 11-9.

Sonalben Patel also expressed happiness on winning bronze medal in the Games.

“I am happy that I could win a medal for India. I am proud of my achievement. After the semi-finals, I felt sad. But when I got my chance to play my bronze medal match, I didn’t want that chance to go by.” I lost my English opponent in England and I am very happy. Patel won the women’s singles – Class 3-5 by defeating Sue Bailey of England 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 in straight sets.

Raj Aravindan Algar managed to beat George Wyndham of Sierra Leone 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 11-0, 10-12, 11-3) in the group stage, but did not qualify for the final. can do.

Around 200 Indian athletes competed for medals in 16 different sports from 28 July to 8 August at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

India’s contingent wrapped up its Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign in fourth place with 61 medals (22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze).

The Commonwealth Games 2022 was India’s fifth best performance when the Games were held at home in 2010, with a total of 101 medals.
