Cyclone Shaheen: Deep depression intensifies; Heavy rain in 7 states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclone Shaheen is likely to intensify into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ by Friday evening. The weather monitoring agency said that cyclonic storm ‘Shaheen’ moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 20 kmph during the last 6 hours over northeast Arabian Sea and neighborhood and centered over central parts of North Arabian Sea. Gaya.

The IMD said that Cyclone Shaheen “will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and move west-northwestwards while crossing the Makran coast during the next 36 hours”.

Thereafter, it is very likely to turn west-southwestwards again, move towards the Oman coast in the Gulf of Oman and weaken gradually.

The IMD said that seven states would receive very heavy rains due to the cyclone in the next 24 hours. These states include- Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Gujarat.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rains in Bihar on October 2 and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 2 and 3.

It is predicted that the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some parts of Northwest India will start from 6th October.

“Conditions are very likely to become favorable for the onset of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from around 6th October 2021 from some parts of Northwest India,” the IMD said in a tweet.

Cyclone Shaheen The cyclone was created from the remnants of Rose, which hit the east coast on September 26. The intensity of Cyclone Gulab had further reduced as it crossed parts of Central India, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

It is a rare instance that a cyclone formed over the Bay of Bengal crossed the width of the country to reach the west coast and again intensified into a cyclone.
