Daniil Medvedev extends his winning streak to 14 matches with consistent performance in 68-minute clash

Daniil Medvedev defeated Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-2 to win the Dubai Tennis Championships on Saturday.

The third seed continued their good run in the 68-minute clash to extend their winning streak to 14 matches.






After lifting trophies in Rotterdam and Doha in February, Medvedev is the third player since 2021 to win three titles in as many weeks, joining Casper Ruud (July 2021) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (October 2022).

“It’s amazing because at the beginning of the year, it wasn’t right. In tennis when you don’t win matches you have doubts. Now it’s feeling better. I was really happy these three weeks and I’m looking forward to the next weeks Waiting for, Medvedev said.

The 27-year-old’s strong hard-court form has seen him rise to No.6 in the ATP Live rankings, rising above Rublev, who has dropped to No.7. With his tour-leading 19th win of the season, Medvedev has moved up to 5th. -2 in ATP head to head series against 25 year old Rublev.

After his 18th Tour-level title, Medvedev will next compete at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, where he will look to continue his winning streak. The former world No. 1, who has won 20 consecutive victories from November 2020 to January 2021, has six wins to equal his career-best winning streak on the ATP Tour.

Medvedev entered the final after not dropping a set all week, and he played with confidence to upset the second seed against Rublev. The 27-year-old committed only two unforced errors in the first set as he sat too far behind the baseline to absorb Rublev’s aggressive hitting.

After catching the opener, Medvedev continued to find the right balance between defense and attack. She turned the tables in baseline exchanges with her accurate crosscourt forehand, breaking twice in the second set to seal her victory.

Rublev, the 2022 champion, was aiming to become the third repeat titlist at the ATP 500 event in Dubai alongside Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Notably, Medvedev has won 18 of his tour-level titles in 18 different cities. He is the first person to achieve this feat in the Open Era.
