data | Unusually wet October fills up water bodies in Kerala

In 10 out of 14 districts, the rainfall in October was twice the long period average.

In the first 20 days of October 2021, every district of Kerala received over 250 mm of rain. In 10 out of 14 districts, the rainfall received in October was twice the Long Period Average (LPA). As the rainfall increased, the water flow into the reservoirs also increased in October, increasing their storage to a very high level. Heavy to very heavy rainfall (64.5 mm to 204.4 mm) has been predicted in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts on Thursday. Therefore, the inflow into major reservoirs and the resultant seepage (deliberately released excess water from reservoirs) in these districts will have to be closely monitored.

The districts where they are located are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rains on Thursday. In this case, the arrival may increase further.
