DDA approves 1,675 EWS flats for 1,640 families in Jailorwala Bagh

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Tuesday said it has approved the allotment of 1,675 Economically Weaker Section (EWS) houses at Jailorwala Bagh, Ashok Vihar in the city.

According to a senior DDA official, 80% of the construction work of the project has been completed, while the allotment of EWS flats to eligible families, which will be done through a draw, will be completed between “November and December”.

The project, launched in 2017, consists of EWS houses with one bedroom, one hall, one washroom, one kitchen and one balcony. A senior DDA official said the construction cost of the project is Rs 421 crore.

The eligible families will be shifted to newly constructed EWS houses on payment of ₹1.71 lakh, which includes ₹30,000 as maintenance charges for five years. The urban body said that after all eligible houses are shifted from the nearby slum cluster, the vacant land – which is around 11,129 square meters in size – will be disposed of through auction.

“Unlike the EWS houses in the Kalkaji project, which are slightly above 25 square meters in size, the flats at Jelorwala Bagh are slightly larger and the site area is also larger. Both the projects have been executed by the DDA at its own cost,” said the senior official.

In situ slum rehabilitation projects are a part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which aims to ensure proper housing to eligible slum dwellers, low, middle income earners. Group and EWS.

Preset rates for traders

The urban body said it has approved pre-determined rates for allotment of land for transporting traders to the Integrated Goods Complex (IFC) at Holambi Kalan, Narela. It said that as per the Delhi Master Plan-2021, the existing godowns of transport traders located in boundary wall and special areas are to be shifted to IFC.

“The scheme will be sent to the housing and urban affairs ministry for final approval and notification,” a DDA official said.
