For the construction of Metro corridor in Delhi, about 300 trees will be removed and transplanted from Derawal Nagar.

The Delhi government on Thursday gave approval to the DMRC to remove and transplant those trees for the construction of the Janakpuri-RK Ashram metro corridor.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered the DMRC to plant 3,160 new trees as compensation, along with removing 131 trees and allowing transplantation of the remaining 185 trees.

With this project people will be able to travel easily between West and Central Delhi. The project will connect Janakpuri West station on Magenta Line with RK Ashram station on Blue Line.

“A park was coming up on the way to Janakpuri-RK Ashram metro corridor road in Derawal Nagar. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had sought approval for transplantation of trees from the site which was stuck for some time,” Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Informing about the approval, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “We have cleared the way for the construction of a new metro corridor between Janakpuri and RK Ashram today. DMRC has been asked to remove 316 trees obstructing the project and Transplants have been allowed, provided they compensate by planting 3,160 more trees.

He also highlighted the importance of public transport in the modern city and called it the lifeline of a big city. By increasing the reach between different sections of the metro, people will be encouraged to opt for cleaner transport instead of their own vehicles.

With the construction of 29 km long Janakpuri-RK Ashram, traffic will be possible in many densely populated areas of Delhi including RK Ashram, Nabi Karim, Sadar Bazar, Pulbangash, Ghanta Ghar, Deraval Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Azadpur, Majlis Park, Bhalswa. , Hyderpur Badli Mor etc.

According to the proposal accepted by the Delhi government, many indigenous tree species like Neem, Amaltas, Peepal, Pilkhan, Gular, Banyan, Desi Kikar etc. will be planted under compensatory plantation.
