Rajendra Pal Gautam had resigned from the post earlier this month by BJP leaders after he was involved in a “conversion” programme.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raj Kumar Anand may take over as Delhi’s new social welfare minister, replacing Rajendra Pal Gautam, who died earlier this month after attending a “conversion” programme. Resigned from the post, which was exposed by BJP leaders.

Sources said that Delhi CM and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal may send the name of Patel Nagar MLA Raj Kumar Anand to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena.

Gautam, who was in charge of the social welfare department in the Arvind Kejriwal government, resigned from his post on October 9 amid controversy over his attendance at the religious conversion event where Hindu deities were sacrificed by hundreds.

Gautam said that he resigned from the post of minister because he did not want the Aam Aadmi Party to suffer because of him.

The BJP had alleged that anti-Hindu statements were made at the event, where thousands of people converted to Buddhism.
