Delhi-Mumbai Vistara flight returns mid-way at IGI airport after a technical snag

A Vistara Airlines Delhi-Mumbai flight returned to Delhi on September 5, after a ‘whistle’ sound was heard in the right side of the cockpit of the Boeing 737 aircraft, a DGCA official said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ordered an inquiry soon after the incident, although no structural defects were found during the initial ground inspection of the aircraft, the official said.

Private airliner Vistara confirmed the return of its Mumbai flight UK 951 back to Delhi, saying the pilot decided to do so after a technical snag was detected soon after take-off.

“The Vistara operated (Delhi-Mumbai) flight UK 951 was involved in an air return to Delhi as whistling sound was heard from the right side in the cockpit. The aircraft landed safely,” the official said.

The airliner arranged for an alternate flight to take the passengers to their destination, a statement said.

Vistara is a joint venture between Tata and Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA). Apart from Vistara, the Tata group also owns Air India’s low-cost international arm, Air India Express, and has a majority stake in low-cost airline AirAsia India.
