Delhi hit and run case: One person died in a gruesome hit and run incident in Delhi. The incident took place in the high-security VIP zone of the national capital when a speeding SUV rammed a scooter with two people inside. According to an eyewitness who recorded the video of the accident at Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Tolstoy Marg intersection, the black colored SUV was moving at a very high speed when it hit the scooter. The shocking thing is that after hitting the two-wheeler, the car carried the victim on its roof for at least 3 km.

According to eyewitnesses, after the collision, one person was thrown away while the other fell on the roof of the car. However, instead of stopping, the car sped away taking 30-year-old Dipanshu Verma on the roof.

“An eyewitness Mohd Bilal followed the car with his scooty and also made a video. He kept shouting and honking but the accused did not stop the car. In the video a person is seen lying on the roof of the car. After 3 km Delhi Gate, the accused threw the person out of the SUV and fled the spot.”

The Delhi Police has registered a case of murder in the incident. The accused has been identified as Harneet Singh Chawla who has been arrested. Deepanshu Verma, who runs a jewelery shop, died, while his 20-year-old cousin Mukul is in critical condition.

The incident evoked memories of a similar gruesome hit-and-run case in which a 20-year-old woman was dragged for over 10 kms after her scooter was hit by a car. The incident took place in Delhi’s Kanjhawala area on New Year’s Day. The victim Anjali Singh was returning home after finishing work when the accident happened. The police said in their investigation that the occupants of the car knew that the woman was trapped under the vehicle but did not bother to stop.
