Delhi Weather Updates: Rain lashed parts of central Delhi on Sunday afternoon as a necessary break from the sultry weather in the national capital for a few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light rain earlier in the day.
The areas which received rain are Lutyens’ Delhi, Barakhamba Road, Connaught Place and Mathura Road. Due to the rain, there was a traffic jam in these areas.
“I had to reach Mathura Road by 2.30 pm and leave Noida by 1 pm. Even though I reached Pragati Maidan at 2 pm, I reached my destination at 2.45 pm. The road closure with rain meant that I walked on Mathura Road for about 45 minutes,” said Smita, a commuter.
The IMD said that Delhi also recorded 7 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, which ended at 9 am. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the national capital on Sunday was recorded at 35.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal.
The morning was humid and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the IMD data showed that the relative humidity ranged between 92 per cent and 61 per cent.
The weatherman predicted rain on Monday
The IMD has predicted similar weather on Monday in the national capital. The weather forecast is that the sky will be cloudy and there may be light rain and thundershowers for tomorrow. As per the forecast, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain at 35 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively in the national capital on Monday.
