Delhi: Will Covid cases increase or remain stable? Experts answer

Experts have said that the trend of fluctuating Kovid-19 cases in Delhi will continue for a long time, which can be attributed to the change in the behavior of citizens.

“We saw an increase last month due to the festive season and people were voluntarily tested as they had to travel,” the news agency said. PTI Eminent epidemiologist Dr Chandrakant Laharia said.

He said, “In my opinion, earlier people were not getting tested, but now, seeing the media reports about the increase in cases, they have started getting tested. Depends on the behavior as well.”

The epidemiologist said that if the testing is increased from 30,000 to 1,00,000, the figures will go up. Because of this, he says that it is difficult to predict how long the ups and downs will continue.

,in DelhiAccess to testing is high, and therefore, people are being tested. The cases are in proportion to the testing figures,” he said.

His opinion was echoed by Dr Vikas Maurya, Director and HOD of Pulmonology at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

“One day people are getting tested and on the other day, they are reluctant. This is also causing ups and downs. I think it will go on for another two-three weeks, and it could be a sign that we are in an endemic state,” Maurya said.

He said the variant that is currently causing the infection is Omicron and its sub-variants.

“During January, a lot of people were exposed. People have developed immunity through vaccination and past exposure. Most of the patients we are seeing are those who have not previously reported testing positive for coronavirus,” he said.

Maurya pointed out that around 70 to 80% of the people who are visiting him through OPD and through hospital admission are those who have no previous history of infection.

He said, “Those who are hospitalized are elderly and have co-morbidities. They did not have a good immune response after vaccination, which could explain why they were infected. In children, infections are mild, ” They said.

This comes as the national capital recorded 970 Covid-19 cases and one death due to the disease on Wednesday, while the positivity rate stood at 3.34%. A day earlier, Delhi detected 1,118 coronavirus cases and one died, while the positivity rate stood at 4.38%.

On Monday, the city recorded 799 cases of the disease and three deaths – the highest in a day in two months – while the positivity rate stood at 4.94%.
