Diwali 2022: Dental Care Tips For Cavity Free Diwali

All festivals in India are celebrated with great pomp. Diwali is no exception. Late night card parties, delicious finger food, sweets and drinks are an integral part of the festivities. It is also a time when people tend to let their guard down and go overboard.

However, during these festive times we should take extra care of our health and teeth. Consuming sweet and acidic food can promote the growth of bacteria in our mouth.

“The presence of bacteria in the mouth makes it stick to the teeth, forming a biofilm called plaque. The said biofilm is capable of damaging the enamel. When plaque remains on the teeth for a long period of time, it collects minerals from the saliva and hardens to form tart,” says Dr. Anil Arora, Dental Specialist and Head of Knowledge, Illusion Aligners. It can irritate and damage the gums causing gingivitis, tooth decay and other oral diseases.

Dr. Arora shares tips on how to take care of your teeth

When it comes to oral health, preventing problems is easier, less expensive, and less painful than fixing them. Hence, it is advised to take good care of your oral health even during the festive days.

The first basic step in maintaining good oral health is to brush your teeth properly twice a day. Flossing and gargling should also be a part of our daily routine. If one is using aligners, both the teeth and the aligners should be carefully cleaned daily.

Another easy tip that can be followed is to drink water frequently. Drinking water between meals helps dilute the acid in the mouth, and protects our teeth from decay.

The festive season is the best time to bond with family and loved ones without worrying about caveats.
