The Department of Telecommunications has amended the ‘sui-generis’ category of licenses granted to state-owned BSNL for the provision and operation of satellite-based services using gateways installed in India.

Under the amended clause, DoT for BSNL The Licensee may also provide satellite based data connectivity to IoT devices/aggregator devices.

Meanwhile, DoT also said, “The licensee may provide all types of mobile satellite services such as INMARSAT services in its area of ​​operation.”

These INMARSAT services may include voice and non-voice messaging and data services by setting up gateways in India using any type of network equipment including circuits and/or packet switches.

Also, it shall include transmission of distress messages in India or outside the territorial limits of India, subject to applicable rules and regulations.

All other terms and conditions will remain unchanged.
