DU’s IPCW to provide counseling to affected students, committee set up to probe harassment allegations

DU has constituted a five-member committee to probe the alleged harassment of girl students of the college by intruders at the Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW).

Delhi University’s Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW) has started counseling sessions for girl students who claimed to have experienced trauma due to alleged harassment during their annual fest. Principal Poonam Kumaria requested the students to take the services of a counselor.

“The counselor will be available from 5th April 2023 to 8th April 2023 in the counseling room of the college between 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM,” the college said in a statement. Member Committee to inquire into the alleged harassment of girl students of the college by illegal entrants to the Indraprastha College for Women (IPCW). The five-member committee is headed by Prakash Singh, who is the director of South Campus. Singh has been asked to submit a detailed report of the matter within a week.

On March 28, a group of men allegedly jumped and entered college By scaling the boundary walls. The accused allegedly disturbed the students celebrating the annual festival of the college, leading to a stampede-like situation. The incident led to a protest by hundreds of college students demanding strict action against the alleged intruders.

Following protests by several student groups, the Delhi Police has arrested seven people under various sections of the IPC related to the incident.

“The management of the college is concerned about the inconvenience caused to some students when an unruly mob entered the college and misbehaved with some students,” Kumaria said earlier. Speaking about the committee being constituted, he said that they would ‘analyze the lapses committed during the conduct of the festival’.

The Principal said that the college would soon come up with the precautionary measures that should be taken by the management to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not happen in future. He has urged the students to submit their complaints with proofs to the new committee. Meanwhile, Delhi University proctor Rajni Abbi, who is also part of the five-member panel, insisted that they would look into all the allegations of the students and also probe the cause of the stampede.
