Red Bull’s RB18 looks much less developed in its current incarnation

Max Verstappen’s 2022 car has been unveiled in a very cryptic and unfinished avatar. Red Bull has taken the cover off the RB18, which becomes the second car since Haas unveiled it for the 2022 season. The car has a brand new livery with not only the Oracle branding, but also the very subtle Honda Racing Corporation branding as Honda has been involved in delivering the power unit to the British Austrian team, but no longer gets the naming rights. But overall, the car that will be anointed with Verstappen’s No. 1 was displayed with many shadows that Red Bull could not see, hiding many technical secrets. It looks like a slight upgrade from the so far 2022 concept show car that was showcased by Liberty Media and looks like a much softer car compared to Haas.

Of course, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has acknowledged that the car will from now onwards be developed for pre-season testing and eventually the first race of the season which will take place on March 20, 2022.
“The big unknown is, have we missed something with these rules and someone else stole the march? It’s a clean sheet of paper for every single team. By the time we get to the first race, that’s all. The RB18 doesn’t look like it looks today, development will be pretty quick as we move through the season. It’s a steep learning curve for everyone and it’s a competition of development between the first and last races is,” he admitted.
The car will also feature a new engine that will include 10 per cent E10 ethanol based biofuel. Honda was working on adapting its 2021 engine to this new regulation, which has been accepted by all engine makers as a major change in the engine block. Many have assumed that this will reduce the overall power of the engine. In 2021, Verstappen was able to challenge for the world title, largely due to engine gains made by Honda.
