Fear must be underestimated: Britain’s Leicester riot witness

Dishita Solanki, an eyewitness to the attack on a Hindu temple in a UK city, told India Today TV that Leicester is a scary place at the moment.

“At the moment it is mainly happening in Leicester. Other cities like Nottingham and Birmingham are also being targeted. I have relatives living in many cities. I have got messages from all of them that there are spots in other cities as well. So, fear is a silence. If your house was attacked when someone was going to knock on your door and people were roaming on the streets, shouting Allah-hu-akbar, then you will be scared. Fear anyone. Will take it,” Solanki said.

“I think the reporting, to be honest, has been extremely unfair so far. It has been very anti-Hindu, if I may say so. Reports are portraying as if it is Hindus who are attacking I am on the ground. I have seen it with my own eyes. I have been supporting the community since last two-three days, the reporting is completely anti-Hindu and it is not fair representation at all,” she said. His coverage has been impartial, regarding the violence in the UK city.

temple vandalism

A Hindu temple in East Leicester was vandalized and a saffron flag outside it was dropped by unidentified men, sparking riots and violence in the UK city. Leicestershire Police have launched an investigation after a video of the incident surfaced online.

In the video, a man dressed in black is seen climbing atop a temple and pulling down a saffron flag, amid hooting and cheers by a group of people.

“We are aware of a video of a man pulling a flag outside a religious building on Melton Road. This appears to have happened when the authorities were dealing with the surrounding public disorder. We do not tolerate violence or disorder and are investigating the incident,” said Leicestershire Police, taking cognizance of the matter.

The incident of vandalism came after communal tension erupted between Hindu and Muslim groups after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match last month.

Police have so far arrested 15 people, including one for violent disorder and one for possessing a sharp-edged weapon.
