The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will launch a probe into late arrivals of four members of the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup squad, which will see players wear them for the first time during a match against the USA.

AIFF general secretary Shaji Prabhakaran said they have sought a report from the national team department on how the consignment of new shoes did not arrive on time. He said that action would be taken if needed.

“After going through the preliminary report, we will launch an investigation to ascertain the facts and fix the responsibility,” Mr Prabhakaran said. PTI on Thursday.

It is learned that some players – mostly wearing a small number of shoes – had requested new shoes last month, but the delivery was delayed as it was brought in via land transport.

Mr Prabhakaran said the AIFF is still not aware of the reasons for the delay in providing shoes to the players and hence has sought a report.

“We have sought a report from the national team department of AIFF. We don’t have the full facts as to how it happened.”

“What we do know is that three to four players wearing smaller size shoes wanted newer shoes but those shoes reached the players late.”
