Fire in Chennai’s Ather Energy Complex, cause is being investigated

Electric vehicle maker Ather Energy on Saturday announced that a fire broke out at one of its experience centers in Chennai and the cause is being investigated.

In a tweet, the EV manufacturer said, “There has been a minor fire incident at our premises in Chennai. While some property and scooters were affected, thankfully all the staff are safe and things are under control. The Experience Center will be operational soon.”

Recently, there have been widespread incidents of electric two-wheelers catching fire in various parts of the country, forcing manufacturers to recall their vehicles.

There have been many incidents of fire in electric vehicles in the country. In the recent past, there have been several incidents of electric vehicles (EVs) catching fire and resulting in fatalities as well as serious injuries. Last month, the government had ordered a probe after a fire broke out in an e-scooter launched by ride-hailing operator Ola’s electric mobility arm in Pune.

Earlier, Ola Electric in a statement said that the company is recalling 1,441 units of its electric two-wheelers in the wake of incidents of vehicular fire.

Okinawa Autotech had recalled over 3,000 units, while PureEV followed a similar exercise for about 2,000 units.

According to the ministry, the Center for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) has been asked to investigate the incidents of fire in electric vehicles and suggest remedial measures.

Last month, amid incidents of fire in electric two-wheelers, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urged companies to take advance action to recall all defective vehicles, even as he said the temperature in the months of March There is some problem with the EV battery when it grows. April and May.

The Minister for Road Transport and Highways also acknowledged that the country’s EV industry is “just beginning” and emphasized that the government does not want to create hurdles.
